Julio Ortega has been working in technology solutions since 1980 when he designed and built his very own PC (two years before the IBM PC hit the market) to aid a client with complex mathematical computations. Since then, he has combined front-line work experience in emerging technologies with research into artificial intelligence theory to become one of the nation's foremost authorities on data mining. His theoretical work in text mining has had much practical success in areas such as helping financial institutions identify credit card fraud and helping insurance agencies manage risk. As a result, he has been invited to lecture on the topic across five continents, and his Ph.D. research in artificial intelligence forms the basis of graduate level curricula for several major US institutions.
